Essie Robinson Tribute

Obituary: "The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is cut off, and we fly away. Psalm 90:10 KJV Sis. Essie Capers Robinson, affectionately known as Rozena, was born on July 16, 1924 in Eastover, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Sr. and Fannie Turner Capers. On Wednesday, November 30, 2016, surrounded by her loving family, Rozena transitioned from labor to reward. She was 92 years old. Rozena attended the public schools of Richland County. As the oldest daughter, she had the responsibility of taking care of the home while her parents worked in the fields. These values and traditions followed her through life. Rozena continued her passion for cooking and homemaking into her marriage. On October 25, 1941, Rozena married, the late Reverend Richard Robinson Sr. and to this union, seven children were born. Rozena loved children and providing for her family. She never met a stranger and all who entered her home felt loved and welcomed. Looking after children was not a job but a reward. The many parents in the community who left their children in her care knew she would provide a safe, nurturing, and secure environment. Rozena attended at St. Luke A.M.E. Church as a child, but later joined her husband's family church, St. Phillip A. M. E. As the wife of an itinerate elder, she worshipped at various churches throughout her husband's ministry. Rozena was preceded in death by three brothers, Jesse, Joseph Jr., and Leon Capers. She leaves to reminisce of the joy and laughter shared through the years, her children; James (Willie Ann), Daisy Pearl, Richard, Jr. Robinson all of Eastover, SC, Mary Lee (Benjamin) Jones of Gadsden, SC,; Ruth Deloris Branch, of Eastover, SC, Joann (Marion) Gibson, of Columbia, SC.; and Alonzo Norris Robinson of Eastover, SC.; nephew, Joe Louis (Dorothy) Robinson; of Williamston, NC, and niece, Josephine (Carl) Sumter of Eastover, SC, both reared in the home; one sister, Verdell Lloyd, of Columbia, SC; twenty-five grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren, five great, great grandchildren and a host other loving relatives and friends. Services: Service for Mrs. Essie "Rozena", " Murray" C. Robinson, will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, December 07, 2016 at St. Phillip AME Church (Eastover SC). Visitation will be held Tuesday, 3:00 to 8:00 pm at JP Holley Funeral Home Columbia Chapel.
