Vivian Rabb Mcgriff

May 10, 1934 — June 15, 2017

Obituary: On June 15 2017, Vivian Rabb McGriff took her heavenly flight from labor to reward. She was born May 10, 1934, to the late Paul Rabb, Sr. and Etta Herndon Rabb in Jenkinsville, South Carolina. She was confirmed at an early age and became a member of St Barnabas Episcopal Church (Jenkinsville, SC), where she received her primary education at the church's Episcopal School. She continued her studies at Voorhees College (Denmark, South Carolina). An advocate of education, she became a graduate of West Virginia State University and pursued advanced studies at New York University. In May of 1961, she married a loving and supportive husband, Lloyd J. McGriff. To this union a son and daughter were born, Lloyd Trevar McGriff and Conchetta McGriff Belgrave. Having served over 35 years in the Richland County Public School system, Vivian embraced the role of educator. She exercised time management and discipline, challenging her students to persevere and excel in their pursuit of academic excellence. She believed in striving to do your best and exemplified that characteristic in word and deed. Vivacious Vivian had a zest for life and flare for fun. Her indomitable spirit in childhood, school, career, and family set the bar for others to follow. In her later years she was able to spend additional time with her grandchildren, watching them grow and develop into young adults. This tremendous compassion for family is captured in each picture. Vivian leaves a legacy of love with supportive husband of 56 years, Lloyd J. McGriff; two devoted children, Rev. Dr. Lloyd T. McGriff (a loving daughter-in-law, Monica ), Conchetta McGriff Belgrave (loyal son-in-law, Retired Lt. Colonel Carl Belgrave); thoughtful and considerate grandchildren, Lloyd Trevar McGriff II, Aaron Joseph McGriff, Gabriele Milan Belgrave, Johnathan Paul McGriff; sisters-in-law; Clotel McGriff Richmond and Ernestine Martin Rabb; brother-in-law, Sylvester Wooden; many wonderful nieces, nephews, and a host of loving relatives and friends. Preceding Vivian in death are her sisters Virginia Rabb Fickling, Mamie Rabb Young, Margie Rabb Brooks, Delia Rabb Wooden; and brothers, Lindbergh Rabb and Paul Rabb, Jr. Services: Funeral Service for Mrs. Vivian Rabb McGriff will be held 11:00am, Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at St. Paul Baptist Church, (207 N Garden St, Winnsboro, SC 29180).
