Vincent Anthony Cunningham, age 76, passed away on January 30th 2026, in Columbia, South Carolina.
Vincent was born on March 23rd, 1949, to his Mother Elise Hampton Cunningham, and father, Vincent Anthony Cunningham, in New York City. Vincent would go on to grow up and live in the Washington Heights neighborhood and throughout New York City for the majority of his life.
He was a graduate of the New York Military Academy in 1967 and attended Northeastern University in Boston until 1972. Vincent went on to have a long and distinguished career with New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority, where he dedicated many years of service before retiring in 2011.
Vincent wed the love of his life, Shirley Bowman Cunningham, on August 28th, 2008. After retirement, they settled in Elgin, South Carolina, Shirley’s home state, and where Vincent spent many of his childhood summers with his grandparents and cousins.
Along with his love of fishing, Vincent was an avid sports fan. He could often be found cheering for Florida State, University of South Carolina, the Patriots, and the Yankees. Sports were a passion he enjoyed sharing with his family and friends. Vincent was loved by many, making a friend wherever he went, always ready to offer a word of advice or encouragement.
Vincent is survived by his wife, Shirley, his son, Brian, and his stepsons, Juan, Dwayne, and Ervin McCoy. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepdaughter Tamika McCoy, and his little sister, Gail Cunningham. He is also survived by two grandchildren, by many loving cousins who were as close to him as brothers and sisters, as well as friends Jaynell White and Steve Robinson.
