Obituary: Sylvester Ronald Riley, affectionately known as "Pippy" was born on January 28, 1956. At an early age, Ronald committed his life to Christ and was baptized at Zion Benevolent Baptist Church. Ronald was educated in the public schools of Richland County, he graduated in 1974 from Lower Richland High School. Shortly after he enlisted into the United States Army where he served for 7 years in Infantry. He also served as an Honor Guard for President Jimmy Carter during his inauguration in 1977. Ronald was never a stranger always friendly and filled with joy with anyone that he met. He loved to be the life of the party with his singing, stories, and dancing. "Pippy" was very outspoken. He didn't mind telling you how he felt and if he needed something he would let you know. Momma (Lula Mae) refers to Ronald as the fun child. In this world you will have trouble, but take heart, I have overcome the world." -John 16:33 Sylvester Ronald "Pippy" Riley was preceded in death by his father Walter Montgomery, stepfather James David Hallmon, sister Carolyn Regina Riley Gadson, and stepsons Paul and Jasmin Alford. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his mother Lula Mae Riley Hallmon, 4children; Sylvester Walter Weston Riley of Buffalo, NY, Nicholas Matthew Riley and Olivia Gabriella Riley both of Hopkins, SC and stepson Kenwan Alford of Alexandria, Virginia,. Four sisters; Cassandra Montgomery Harris of Columbia, SC, Lawanda Montgomery Jones of Hopkins, SC, Laverne Marie Riley of Durham, NC, and Andrea (Aaron) Hallmon-Lucas. Five brothers, Anthony W. Riley of Smiths-station, Alabama, Kenneth Riley of Hopkins, SC, Walter (Mary) B. Montgomery of Columbia, SC, Walter (Renae) V. Anderson of Hopkins, SC, and Keith Montgomery of Hopkins, SC; twenty three nieces and nephews, five great nieces and nephews and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends that will miss him dearly. Services: Service for Mr. Sylvester Riley will be held 11:00 am Friday, October 28, 2016 at the Zion Benevolent Baptist Church with internment to follow in the Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday and the family will receive friends from 4:00 pm to 7:00pm.
