Obituary: Sylvester Jones entered eternal rest on Friday, May 25, 2018 at Agape Hospice in Lexington, SC. He was born on February 17, 1955 in Hopkins, SC to the late Laura Patterson Jones and late James Lee Jones. Sylvester was a graduate of Lower Richland High School. He joined the United States Army in 1974 where he served as a Field Artillery Crewman where he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal serving his country. He attended Midlands Technical College and was a certified Senior Automotive Mechanic Technician. Sylvester had a love for people and helping others. He was admired and well known in his community. He never met a stranger. He was a mentor to his nephews and nieces. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and as was an avid drag racing fan. Sylvester leaves to cherish his fond and loving memories his wife Ively Bartley Jones of Columbia, SC; devoted son Sheldon Griswold of Port St. Lucie, Florida; his mother-in-law Pearl Mae Bartley of Columbia, SC (husband late Lucius Bartley); two sisters: Alberta Faulk of Columbia, SC (husband late Reverend Charles Faulk) and Queen Tillman of Columbia, SC (husband Berry); three brothers: James V. Jones of Hopkins SC (wife Roxie); Curtis Jones of Hopkins, SC (Mikki); Vincent Jones of Hopkins, SC (wife Gloria); one granddaughter: Victoria and two grandsons: DeQuan and Sheldon Jr; Grandmother, Dorothy Jones of Hopkins; two brothers-in-law: Retired MSGT Barone Bartley of Germany (wife Kirsten); Dr. Seigel Bartley of Grand Prarie, Texas (wife Laura); one sister-in-law, Christie McClary of Columbia, SC (husband Ross); six aunts: Jessie Archie (husband Robert); Abbie Riley; Barbara Scott (husband Bruce); Doris Wilson; Tammie Jones; Vanessa Jones; three uncles: Patrick Jones (wife Evelyn); Pastor Vincent Jones (wife Sheila); Calvin Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and dear friends. Services: Funeral services for Mr. Sylvester Jones will be held Friday, June 1, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the JP Holley Funeral Home Chapel, Garners Ferry Road Chapel, with burial to follow in the Fort Jackson National Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
