Obituary: Mr. Sam Franklin, affectionately known as "Hard Time" was born February 23, 1955. He was the son of Minnie Franklin and the late Covington Franklin, both of Bishopville, SC. On Friday morning, March 16, 2018, he was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, while at the home of his sister Minnie. He attended Bishopville High School and graduated in 1974. After graduating high school Sam worked various jobs. "Hard Time" never met a stranger and he really loved his family. Everyone that knew him, knew that he loved Harlem Park. He had so much love and respect for his community and the people in it. He was preceded in death by: his father, Covington Franklin; and two brothers, Larry Franklin and James Franklin. Mr. Sam "Hard Time" Franklin leaves to cherish his precious memory: his mother, Minnie Franklin, of Bishopville, SC; two brothers, Rufus (E. King) King, of Seattle, Washington and Eddie Franklin, of Bishopville, SC; six sisters, Rosa Mae King, of New York, Mary E. King, of Mayesville, SC, Debra (Willie) Bradley, of Bishopville, SC, Bessie Wilson, of Charlotte, NC, Lula King, and Minnie (Levern) Slater, both of Bishopville, SC; one aunt, Ms. Ann Franklin, of Bishopville, SC; one uncle, Robert Durant, of Clayton, NC; and three very special cousins, who were like siblings that he grew up with him, Ms. Sue Franklin, Marvin Franklin, and McKinley Joe Green, a host of nieces, nephews, other loving family and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly. Services: Funeral services for Sam Franklin will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Lee Central High School, 1800 Wisacky Hwy, Bishopville, South Carolina 29010.
