Obituary: Michael "Neepo" Hopkins, Sr. was born January 31, 1961 in Abbeville, Louisiana. He was the son of Pearl Williams and Bernice Joseph Hopkins. He proudly served in the United States Army National Guard for fifteen (15) years and fought in Desert Storm. He enjoyed watching sports, going fishing, and making others laugh. His laughter and the stories he told will live on in all who loved him. Micheal was united in Holy Matrimony to Valerie Payne. This union was blessed with one daughter. He was preceded in death by: his parents; one son, Robert Hopkins; one sister, Georgia Hopkins; and three brothers, Marshall Ray Davenport, Ronald Williams, and Kenneth Smith. Michael Joseph Hopkins is survived by: his loving wife of thirteen (13) years, Valerie P. Hopkins; three daughters, Gabrielle Hopkins, of the home, Deshera (Kenwin) Huntly, and Amanda (Demetrius) Gladden; five sons, Michael Joseph Hopkins, Jr., Ty'Rell Hopkins, De'Onne Hopkins, Travaris Payne, and Domonique (Kenecia) Payne; four brothers, Willie (Pam) Davenport, Larry (Josephine) Turner, Joseph Wilton Hopkins, and Joseph Wilfred Hopkins; four sisters, Christine Hopkins, Mary Ann H. Broussard, Ann Lee Hopkins, and Roselie Hopkins; three sisters-in-law, Alfrieda Williams, Beverly Smith, and Cansandra (Kenneth) Jones; eighteen grandchildren; three lifelong friends, Steven (Margaret) Levine, Norman Walker, and Toney Benson; a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Services: Funeral services for Mr. Michael J. Hopkins will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the J. P. Holley Funeral Home Chapel, with burial on Monday, January 22, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Fort Jackson National Cemetery. A visitation will be held Thursday from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
