Mary Elizabeth Griffin Greene

Obituary: Mary Elizabeth Griffin Greene was born December 19, 1922 in Chatham, Virginia as the seventh of ten children to William C. and Roberta Giggetts Griffin. Married in 1942 to James C. Greene, she was the mother of two sons, James L. (Shirley) and Charles E.; four grandchildren, Dr. Shanna (Edwin) Benjamin, Jill Marie Greene, James L. (Aina) Greene, Jr., Onaje (Erica) Greene, MD; eight great grandchildren, Chloe and Spencer Benjamin, Amaria, Jada, Lauryn, Zuri, Zavier and Zephen Greene; and daughter-in-law Dr. Paulette J. Greene. Mary was predeceased by her husband James C. Greene and son Charles E. Greene; sisters Pauline Griffin, Georgia Griffin and Alberta Tate; brothers Curl Caesar Griffin, James Edgar Griffin, Alexander Griffin, Jesse Hargrave Griffin, Lewis Montruse Griffin and William Howard Griffin; daughter-in-law Bernice R. Greene. She leaves many nieces, nephews, loving friends and extended family to cherish her memory and honor her legacy. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary E. Greene's memory may be made to: St. Paul A.M.E. Church Building Fund, 18-21 Sanford St., East Orange, NJ, 07018. Mary's cremated remains will be interred in a private ceremony at William C. Doyle Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Wrightstown, NJ. Services: Mary Elizabeth Griffin Greene went to her heavenly home on October 5, 2016. A memorial service for Mary will be held on Friday, November 4, 2016 at St. Paul AME Church, 18-21 Sanford St., East Orange, NJ at 11:00 a.m.
