Obituary: Levi Adams, Sr., affectionately known as "Tar", was born September 18, 1948 in Columbia, South Carolina to the late James B. and Corrine Jackson Adams. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. He made his transition on the twenty-first June at Palmetto Health Heart Hospital in Columbia surrounded by his loving family. Levi was educated at the public schools in Richland County. After he graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, he attended junior college until he was drafted into the US Army. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam and a total of seven years in the Army. After he completed his military service, he moved to New York. Here he met his future wife, Lorey Worrell. Levi was skilled with his hands. In high school he played basketball and excelled in brick masonry classes. In New York, he was led into the construction industry. He became employed as a brick mason and helped to build houses and commercial buildings in the New York and tri- state area. After the death of his wife, Levi returned to Columbia where he resided until his death. He will always be remembered for his love of dancing and his warm and compassionate spirit. During his retirement years, he enjoyed playing pool, visiting family and friends and watching Western shows on television. He also spent valuable time with his mother and father at their home when their health began to fail. He leaves to cherish his memories: his two sons: Levi (Danielle) Adams, Jr. of Columbia, SC and Robert Adams of Atlanta, GA; three loving grandsons: Julian, Christian and Ethan Adams all of Columbia; one granddaughter Kat'taleya Melendez of Los Angeles, CA; sisters: Catherine (Armistead) Burks of Houston, TX, Diane Adams, Dorothy Adams and Nellie Randall of Columbia, and Elaine Adams of Upland, CA; two brothers James (Marie) Adams and Sammuel Adams of Columbia, SC and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly. Services: Funeral Service for Mr. Levi Adams Sr. will be held 6:00pm, Monday, June 26, 2017 at JP Holley Funeral Home Columbia Chapel. Interment will be in Fort Jackson National Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4 to 8pm at the JP Holley Funeral Home Columbia Chapel.
