Joseph "Knife" A Felder

Mr. Joseph "Knife" Athel  Felder, 76, of Columbia, South Carolina entered into eternal rest on Saturday, the 21st day of June, 2025.   A public visitation will be held from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o'clock in the evening on Tuesday, the 1st  day of July, 2025, at JP Holley Funeral Home Southeast Chapel, 8132 Garners Ferry Rd Columbia, SC 29061.

Joseph “Joe” Athel Felder, affectionately known as “Knife,” passed away on June 21, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on May 7, 1949, Joe was the beloved son of Hattie Mae Stroman and Butler Stroman. Before his retirement, Joe worked as a skilled monument setter, a trade he took great pride in. He earned the nickname “Knife” because he always kept one in each pocket — a testament to his readiness, craftsmanship, and character. Joe was known for his vibrant personality and zest for life. Whether it was taking long walks, cooking, dancing, playing the dozens, watching westerns, trying his luck with lotto numbers, or simply enjoying a drink, Joe knew how to embrace every moment. He was the life of every gathering and a true lover of laughter, joy, and good company.

Joe is survived by his devoted wife, Toynua Mention-Felder, and his children: Joseph “Noonie” Felder, Joy Felder Martin (Johnnie Martin Jr.), Lashell Ann Gutierrez (Christopher Gutierrez), and DeJarous Marque Bell. He was a proud grandfather to Devon Payne, Taryn Echeverry, Jiya Felder, Joi Felder, Justin Martin, Phillip Tyree Bell, Gabrielle Christina Gutierrez, and Liam Gutierrez. He also leaves behind his siblings: Carl Felder, Charles Felder, Wesley Stroman, and Belinda Baker. He was preceded in death by Leviticus Felder, Jerry Stroman, Hattie Elizabeth Baxter, and Ollie Mae Walker.

Joe “Knife” Felder will be remembered for the joy he brought to others, his storytelling, his humor, and the deep love he held for his family and friends. His spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
