Obituary: So that the world can remember him for the wonderful man he was. Jorge Rosario Torres, passed away of natural causes at the age of 83 on Monday, September 18, 2017 at his home in Columbia, South Carolina. His wife (Mary Rosario) and family were by his side.Jorge was born on April 4,1934 in Aibonito, Puerto Rico, to Clotilde Rosario and Justina Torres. He grew up inCayey, Puerto Rico with his siblings. In 1950, Jorge decided to journey to New York where he met the love of his life, Mary Rosario.They married in Brooklyn, NY and recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary. He was the proud father of 11 children: Madelyn Rosario, Margarita Dow (Norm), Angela Salas (Walter), Milagros Rosario, Hector Olivo Jr., ElliotOlivo (Annette), Yvette Rivera (Angel), Mirna Rosario (Luis), Yvonne Rodgers (Steve), Abel Rosario (Amaryllis) and Candice Vazquez (Pedro). He was the proud grandfather of 38 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren. Jorge became a memberof the church PrimeraIglesia de Dios Evangelica where he followed God's calling and became a deacon, counselor and Pastor. Jorge pastored for 39 years. He helped the local community and hundreds of families through counseling, ministry, and community outreach. He was very well respected and loved by all whom he encountered. In 1981, he relocated his family to Puerto Rico where he continued his ministry. In Puerto Rico, Jorge and Mary started their own business in ceramics. They found joy in teaching the art of creating, painting and firing ceramics. They ran their business for 13 years and then decided to retire to Palm Bay, Florida. After 17 years in Palm Bay, Jorge and Mary decided to relocate to Columbia, South Carolina. When his health began to decline, Jorge and Mary moved in with their daughter Candice and her family who cared for him for the remainder of his life. His grandson Joel took extra special care of his grandfather. We all loved him very much. In addition to his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, Jorge is survived by his sisters, Ramonaand CarmenanaRosario, both from Brooklyn, NY. Jorge is predeceased by his parents, his son Hector Olivo Jr., his sisters,Maria Rodriguez and Angelica Rivera and his brothers, Tomas, Angel Luis, Clotildito and Angel Rosario. Services: An inurnment service will be held Friday, October 6th, 2017 in Rosedale & Rosehill Cemetery, 355 E. Linden Ave, Linden, NJ 07036 at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends and relatives at that time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Mary Rosario, 113 London Gray Dr., Columbia, SC 29229 to help offset expenses.
