Johnny Matthews

Obituary: Johnny Matthews was born December 2, 1940 in Richland County, South Carolina to the late Willie and Lottie Green Matthews. On the morning of Tuesday July 30,2019, God smiled on Johnny and set him free. Johnny was educated in the public schools of Richland County, South Carolina. He was baptized and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age. He was a devoted member of the St. John Baptist Church. Johnny was a kind, generous, and compassionate person who kept a smile on his face. He was a special soul who loved and showed love to his family and friends. He enjoyed attending church, watching football, going on family vacations and listening to gospel music. He was preceded in death by his brothers, David Matthews, and Willie Green. There are many who remain and share his great love and mourn his passing. Among these are his two loving siblings, Mrs. Lucille M. (John) Hayes and Ms. Mary J. Matthews, both of Columbia, South Carolina; one brother-in-law; three nephews; four nieces; four great nephews; three great nieces; one grandniece; one grandnephew and a host of other loving relatives and friends that will miss him dearly. Services: Funeral Services will be held 12:00 pm Saturday, August 3, 2019 at St John Baptist Church with Interment to follow at church cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday August 2, 2019 from 3-6 pm
