Harvey Donald Golden was born October 25, 1949, in Canyon, Texas, to the late, James Paul Golden and Pauline Lee Golden. He died October 20, 2020. Harvey lived his youth in New Mexico and Texas and made his last home here in South Carolina. Harvey served his country in the United States Navy. He served in Vietnam from 1969 - 1973. During that time Harvey earned the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation; Vietnam Service Medal; Navy Unit Commendation; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; National Defense Service Medal; and
Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea).
Harvey spent the rest of his life in South Carolina. He worked as a steel fabricator and welder at Interpace Corp, Midland Iron and Steel, and Kline and Steel before finally retiring.
Harvey had many hobbies. He enjoyed (in his younger days) riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Harvey was a great conversationalist and could tell stories so well with great detail you felt as though you were in the story.
Harvey also enjoyed horticulture, meteorology, astrology, and astronomy and could talk about it for hours on end. He loved lighthouses and the ocean. He loved keeping track of the weather and storm chasing.Harvey also loved to go to the airport and sit and watch the planes take off and land. He often said it was soothing to him.
Harvey used to tell of the times he was in New Mexico and finding the Pecos Valley diamonds. There was not much Harvey didn't like and that included a good cigar!
Harvey lived life to its fullest and enjoyed so much of it. He was like a cat with 9 lives. He had at different times been very sick but would bounce back. With the last sickness, he just couldn't recoup, and he left us all.
Harvey was predeceased by his parents and older brother, James Lee Golden. He is survived by his sister Dana Golden Ammer (Greg); three nephews: Steven (Samantha), James Paul (Ashley), and Joseph.
Harvey is also survived by 6 great nieces and nephews: Kristen, Suzanna, Mason, Ethan, Sonya and Scarlett, and many friends too numerous to mention.
Harvey you were dearly loved and will be missed by all.
