Girlie Jones

OBITUARY

Mrs. Girlie Dean Jones, daughter of the late Allen and Virgie Carter, was born December 12, 1941 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia.

She attended the public schools of Isle of Wight County. She was united in holy matrimony in Smithfield, VA to Cornelius Sylvester Jones, Sr. of Hampton, VA in September of 1960. Due to the Air Force commission of her husband, Tsgt Jones, they were based in Germany, Louisiana, California and South Carolina. Tsgt. Jones preceded her in death on October 10, 1980.

She was a graduate of Midlands Technical College. She worked for American Civil Liberties Union, SC Employment Security Commission, and retired from SC Department of Social Services.

Mrs. Jones was an active member of the Daniel Circle Congregation at Fort Jackson, SC, serving in the following ministries: Women Fellowship, Hospitality, Usher, Drama, His Hand and Homeless Ministries.  As a result of her generous spirit and pleasant personality, she was loved by many, and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. She quietly departed this life Saturday, December 7, 2019 at her home in Columbia, SC.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of  her children: Dr. Pamela (Stephen) Seda of Atlanta, GA, Cornelius Jones, and Jay (Philana) Jones both of Columbia, SC; four grandchildren Candace (Roshan Selvaratnam) Seda, Erika Seda, Stephanie Seda, and Justin Seda of Atlanta, GA; sisters: Geraldine Liggins, Virgie Williams, and Judy Davis of Smithfield, VA; aunts: Virginia Uzzle of Smithfield, VA and Velma Addison of Portsmouth, VA; 12 nieces and nephews; a host of devoted cousins and lots of friends

Funeral Services for Girlie Jones will be held  9:00 am  Monday, December 16, 2019 at JP Holley Funeral Home Chapel  with interment to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. A Visitation will be held on Sunday December 15, 2019 from 3:00-8:00 pm at our Garners Ferry Road Chapel.
