Georgia Faye Coogler Sims Wimberly

Georgia Faye Coogler Sims Wimberly passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026, following a sudden illness.

Born on March 1, 1943, Georgia lived a life marked by faith and devotion to those she cared most about. She was a woman of Christian faith who found comfort in the promise of eternal life, and we take peace in knowing she is now resting in the loving arms of Jesus.

Georgia shared 41 years of marriage with her first husband, Tony Wayne Sims. Later in life, she was blessed with a beautiful reconnection and marriage to her devoted and loving husband, William R. Wimberly, rekindling a love that began in their twenties and was joyfully renewed after 40 years.

She is survived by her husband, William R. Wimberly; her daughter, Shannon Sims-McAlister; her grandchildren, Caroline McAlister and Wayne McAlister; her siblings, Linda Bodie and Vernon Boyd; and many nieces and nephews.

Georgia was preceded in death by her mother, Wylah Dean Kirby Coogler Powell; her fathers, Cecil Walter Coogler and Arthur Edward Powell; and her sisters, Madge Feagan and Relsie Cook.

She began her career at NCNB and later dedicated herself to being a stay-at-home mother. She eventually returned to the workforce and retired from Bank of America in Riverview, Florida. Georgia also pursued nursing studies at Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina, reflecting her desire to care for others.

Georgia will be remembered for her enduring faith. Her memory will live on in all who knew her.
