George Lowery

Obituary: George Lowery was born February 12, 1929 in Sumter, South Carolina. He was the eldest child of the late Henry and Ellenora J. Dyer-Wilson. He departed this life on Monday, May 1, 2018 at his residence. George was united in Holy Matrimony to Mamie E. Kennedy Lowery on May 12, 1950. Their union was blessed with ten children. He received his education in from the Sumter County School System. He also attended The Adult Literacy Center in Sumter, South Carolina, as well as Newark, New Jersey. While in Newark, He retired from the Department Sewer and Public Works as a Sewer equipment operator in 1991. After retirement, George and his family relocated to Pinewood, South Carolina, there they became members of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. He was loved by his family and friends dearly. His passion was fishing, Barbequing pigs, hunting, and cooking wild game (Deer, Raccoons, and rabbits). He was given the nickname "Coon Man" because of how well he prepared the Raccoons and pigs. George was always the life of all the family gatherings, loads of laughter, dancing, and memories during holidays and events. His favorite saying for his children was, "don't take no tea for coffee" whenever he gave a life lesson. We still laugh about it! He was a member of the International F.G.A.M. Mason Inc. #29 in Sumter, South Carolina. George was preceded in death by: his parents; one son, George Lowery Jr; two daughters, Sarah Mae Kennedy and Minemah Salaam; two brothers, Ike Wilson and Robert Harvin; and two sisters, Mae Ella Washington and Hattie Mae Bell. George Lowary leaves to cherish his precious memory: his wife, Mamie E. Lowry; three daughters, Mary J. (Jacob) Holmes, of Chatham, NJ, and Martha A. (Jimmy) Alexander, of Pleasantville, NJ; two sons, Joseph W. Kennedy, of Pleasantville, NJ, Sampson (Olivia) Lowery, of Newark, NJ Anthony (MaryAnne) Lowery, of Sumter, SC, Leroy-Bey Lowary, of Pinewood, SC, and Charles Lowery, of Newark, NJ; a host of loving other relatives and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly. Services: Funeral services for George Lowery will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2018 at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Pinewood, SC with burial to follow in the Calvary Zion Hill Cemetery, Pinewood, SC. A wake service will be held Sunday, May 6, 2018 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Pinewood, SC.
