Fred Wilson Felkel III, lovingly known as Rick, passed away on December 2, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of quiet strength, deep heart, and unforgettable stories. Born on December 18th, 1954, Rick lived a life filled with adventure, connection, and a deep appreciation for the world around him.
Rick grew up on Whittaker Drive, a place that shaped many of the memories he loved to share. He spoke often and fondly of his childhood there, carrying those stories with him throughout his life.
An avid hiker, Rick found peace and purpose on the Appalachian Trail. Nature was his sanctuary. He also loved the freedom of the open road during his years as a truck driver, embracing the adventure of traveling and experiencing new places.
Rick had a generous soul and a good heart. He was the kind of man who remembered the small things, treasured the past, and never hesitated to share a story or a laugh. He was loved deeply by his family, friends, and everyone who crossed paths with him.
Rick is survived by his sister, Suzanne F. Owens; his niece, Darcy Arnold; his stepbrother, Ray Cooper (Beth); his beloved cat Buddy; and many more family members who will forever cherish him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred Felkel Jr. of Anderson, SC, and Dorothy Ann Felkel of Spartanburg; his stepmother, Elizabeth Felkel; and his longtime companion, Tawanda Saddler, who held a special place in his heart.
Rick’s spirit lives on in the trails he walked, the stories he told, and the love he leaves behind.
