Obituary: Deacon Elijah Nelson, Sr. was born August 27, 1935 in Summerton, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Julius Nelson and Rosa Rhames Nelson. He departed this life Friday, January 26, 2018. He was a Deacon at Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church and was employed for the City of Sumter. He was preceded in death by: his parents; and two children. Deacon Elijah Nelson is survived by: his loving wife, Elizabeth Gardner Nelson; five children, Elijah (Melissa) Nelson, Jr., Roger (Susie) Nelson, Derrick Nelson, Debra Bradley, Brenda Nelson; other loving relatives and friends Services: Funeral services for Deacon Elijah Nelson, Sr. will be held Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at Jehovah Missionary, Sumter, SC with burial to follow in the Hillside Memorial Park., Sumter, SC. A visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the church.
