Obituary: Dottie (Pokey) Samuel Kenley was born June 13, 1935 in St. Matthews, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Louis and Ella Kirkland Samuels. She departed this life on Sunday, February 18, 2018 while at her residence, after an extended illness. She attended the public schools of Calhoun County, South Carolina. Shortly after she relocated to New York City. Sixty (60) years ago, Dottie met and married Caldwell Kenley and to that union four children were born. She was employed as a Home Health Attendant until her retirement. Dottie Samuel Kenley leaves to cherish her precious memory: her loving and devoted husband, Caldwell Kenley, Jr.; four children, Gwendolyn Middlebrooks, of Bronx, NY, Yvonne (James) Matthews, of St. Matthews, SC, Donna (James) Huntley, of Bronx, NY, and Caldwell (Jennifer) Kenley, of St. Matthews, SC; two step-daughters, Thomasina (John) Michael, of Columbia, SC and Rosalind (Edwin) Curry, of St. Matthews; three sisters, Mildred Grier, of St. Matthews, Annie Haynes, of Hartford, Connecticut, and Helen (Henry) Owens, of Bronx, NY; two aunts, Pearl (James) Washington, of Bronx, NY and Marie Kirkland, of Orangeburg, SC; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; a host of other loving relatives and friends. Dottie's sweet spirit and generous personality will be greatly missed but remembered by those who loved her. Services: Funeral services for Mrs. Dottie Samuels Kenley will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 24, 2018, at Calvary Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery. A visitation will be held Friday evening from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the JP Holley St. Matthews Chapel.
