Charles Murrell

Obituary: Mr. Charles Leroy Murrell, affectionately known as "Sonny" left this mortal realm on December 4, 2017, "leaving behind a whole lot of "stuff" that his family has no idea what to do with..." Charles was born on January 13, 1938, in Jacksonville, Florida to Quincy and Mildred A. Murrell. He attended Matthew Gilbert High School and graduated from Edward Waters College where he majored in Business. He enlisted and proudly served his country in the United States Army. After the serving in the army, it is largely believed that he was the first African American bus driver for Trailways Bus Lines of SC. Later, he was employed at the University of South Carolina. After retiring, he founded Murrell Enterprises, where he was owner and CEO until his passing. He was preceded in death by his father, Quincy C. Murrell; brother, William J. Murrell; and former spouse, Mary Murrell Skinner. Charles leaves a legacy of love and memories to be cherished by his children, Charles Murrell, Jr., Quincy G. Murrell, Charles Kimbrell Murrell, Harold Addison, Tecia C. Murrell, Elaina O. Kershaw; grandchildren, Shantelle Murrell, Quinton W. Murrell, Tia Murrell, Aleiya Addison, Taylor Addison, Charles Addison, Draven Addison, Charyia Addison, Da'Rhya Addison; great-grandson, Zion Murrell; mother, Mildred A. Murrell; siblings, Reginald C. Murrell, Lt. Col. Evette Murrell, Quinese Murrell, LaTisha Murrell, Robin Murrell; special devoted friend, Delores Johnson; former spouses, Priscilla Foggy Murrell, Kate Etheridge; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Services: Memorial Service for Mr. Charles Murrell, will be held 2:00pm Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017 at the JP Holley Funeral Home.
