Carl Davis, Sr

November 20, 1946 — August 21, 2021

Internment Services for Carl Davis Sr. will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery on Friday September 24, 2021 at 12noon 4170 Percival Road Columbia, SC 29229

Carl Davis Sr., affectionately known as “Butch” or “Be-Bop” to some,  or "Daddy" to others, was born to the late Mr. Samuel Davis and the late Mrs. Alene Davis on November 20, 1946 in Brooklyn, New York. His parents' beautiful union also brought forth Carl's two sisters, Arlene George and Joan Williams who both preceded him in death.

Carl was educated in the Brooklyn Public School System in NY. Shortly thereafter, he worked diligently to serve our country in the United States Army from 1966-1968, and has since been recognized as a Vietnam Veteran. After his service in the military, he returned to school to earn his G.E.D. and later acquired a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the College of Rochelle in NY. As a hard working man, he held multiple careers across his lifetime; retiring from the US Postal Services in 2013.

Those who knew him well describe him as a lover and collector of many things: Jazz music, clothes and shoes, art, boxing, good-looking women; the list goes on! As a classic Brooklynite, Carl would hit the streets for shopping trips, weekend visits to the local music stores, and any chance to feel the syncopations of city life. He was a beautiful soul- proud and private, handsome and humorous, flawed, fashionable and full of life!

In January 2021, Carl decided to make the big move to "The Carolinas" to be closer to family.  Though he began his stay in Raleigh NC, he transitioned to living in Columbia, SC and was surrounded with love and support as he began a new chapter in his life.

In Columbia, Carl was given the very best care and support from his family.

On Saturday, August 21, 2021, as a military veteran, Carl took his final “roll call” here on earth, and passed away peacefully at LifeCare Rehabilitation Center.

He will truly be missed by all those who knew him, cared for him, and those who helped turn seven decades into a lifetime of unforgettable moments.

He leaves a legacy of memories to his children, Carl Jr. (Roberta), Nichole Davis Morgan, Arlene Davis Brown (Richard), Chantz Davis, Brandy Smith, Donna Woodard, Robbin Richardson, Bernadette Clay, and Shawn Richardson, many grand and great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends who will celebrate his unwavering spirit forever.
