Barbara A Melton

Barbara Ann Melton, 78, passed away peacefully at her home on December 9, 2024. She was born on July 3, 1946, in Franklin, Virginia, to Evangelist and Gracie Barnes.

Barbara attended Franklin High School, after school Barbara moved to Wilmington, Delaware, where she began a fulfilling career as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Her dedication to her work and her family was evident throughout her life.

Barbara was the heart of her family. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, a time she cherished for its joy and togetherness. Each year, she would lovingly call her loved ones to ask what they wanted for Christmas and playfully express her frustration if they claimed they didn’t want anything. Barbara had a wonderful sense of humor that brought laughter to those around her. She also had a love for flowers—though she often joked about her inability to keep them alive by planting artificial ones in her flowerbed.

Barbara is survived by her children and their spouses: John L. Urquhart (Monica), Jeanetta D. Fountain (Charles), Stephanie Y. Davenport (Jerome), and Wayne D. Melton. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.

Barbara’s warmth, humor, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort and joy to those she held dear.
