Carol Jordan Tribute

CAROL ELLEN MOORE JORDAN

(January 8, 1934 - January 19, 2020)

Carol M. Jordan went home to be with the Lord on January 19, 2020. Throughout her short illness, she had family by her side. She spent her 86th birthday in the Lexington Medical Center in South Carolina and had a small belated party with family and her little dog Mandy. Born on January 8, 1934, in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, Carol was the second child of Carl R. and Madeline O. Moore. In 1952, she graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School where she was on the Girls Basketball Team and a member of the orchestra. On November 29, 1952, Carol married Bruce E. Jordan of Mechanic Falls, Maine, who was in the Coast Guard stationed in Boothbay Harbor.

While living in Maine, Carol worked as a waitress at the Village Restaurant in Camden. She later worked at Pratt Abbott Dry Cleaners in South Portland. Then after attending vocational school, she was employed by Maine Medical Center in Portland. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Westbrook, Three Score Plus Club at the South Portland Recreation Center, Elm Street United Methodist Church in South Portland, and was a Life Member in the Order of the Eastern Star Beacon Chapter #202 of Damariscotta.

In 1975, Carol’s father and husband both passed away within a week of each other, so her mother Madeline moved to Rockport to live with Carol and her children. At only 41, Carol found herself the Matriarch of the family. In 1997, after her children were grown, she lost the bond and friendship she shared with her mother when Madeline passed away. Carol was a devoted wife, mother and daughter. She was very supportive of her children and is remembered for being a good listener, giving good advice, offering encouragement and being helpful. She was a thoughtful grandmother and great grandmother who attended school events, graduations, weddings, retirements, and traveled often to visit loved ones.

Carol loved Maine, but in 2004 she moved to Lexington, South Carolina, to escape the Maine winters. She always loved cats and owned many throughout her life. While living in Lexington, she had a cat named Lexie and a little Chihuahua named Mandy who was her best friend. She and Mandy were inseparable at times. Carol liked watching TV with her son James who lived with her. Some of her favorite shows were Hawaii Five-O, game shows, Clemson Tigers football and all Boston sports teams. She was such an avid fan of Clemson and the Celtics that everyone knew not to call during games. She liked music, especially Elvis and would tell people that they had the same birthday, but she was a year older. She enjoyed going to shows in Myrtle Beach and to restaurants with her family. She also supported several charities.

Carol was also predeceased by her brother, Carl R. Moore of Round Pond, ME and her beloved granddaughter, Courtney E. Hyde Del Broccolo of Burbank, CA. She is survived by her children: Claire (Roger) Hyde of Lexington, SC, Donna (Daniel) Reynolds of Lebanon, CT, Joanne Wyman of Ishpeming, MI, and James Jordan also of Lexington. Six grandchildren: Daniel, Brian, Sara, Laura, Matthew and Dana. Eight great grandchildren: Darby, Bobby, Ciera, Jayden, Jace, Jonathan, Nicholas and Benjamin.  Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service and burial will be held in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, at a future date. There will be shared memories and music, especially her song request “O Holy Night.” Her favorite color was yellow, and she liked carnations. There will be some at graveside. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to local animal shelters.
