of Death FAQs

DEPENDING ON WHERE THE DEATH OCCURS, YOU SHOULD TAKE THE FOLLOWING STEPS:
UNANTICIPATED DEATH AT HOME OR ELSEWHERE:

In these situations, immediately call 911. The police and emergency medical personnel will then determine the appropriate steps to be taken. Often, the police can release directly to JP Holley Funeral Home. However, in certain cases, your loved one may need to be transferred to the Medical Examiner’s office to determine the cause of death. In this case, inform the Deputy Coroner of your request for JP Holley Funeral Home as your service provider, (803)-695-1666.

IF A DEATH OCCURS OUTSIDE OF YOUR HOME AREA:

First call JP Holley Funeral Home at (803) 695-1666. We will coordinate with a local funeral home where the death occurred. As a member of several national associations, we can often help families save costs and safely transport loved ones into our care.

WHEN DEATH OCCURS AT A HOSPITAL OR NURSING HOME:

Please inform the medical staff of your request for JP Holley Funeral Home as your service provider. The medical staff will obtain all the necessary documentation needed to release your loved one to our care.

ANTICIPATED DEATH AT HOME (HOSPICE CARE):

Today, more people are electing to pass away in the comfort of their home under the care of hospice. In this situation, you should inform the hospice provider that JP Holley Funeral Home is the funeral home of your choice. They will then take care of all necessary legal requirements. Often times when someone has a terminal illness, the family will elect to make prearrangements with us, so as not to overwhelmed them with important decisions to be made at the time of death.
